VANCOUVER – Vancouver-False Creek MLA Sam Sullivan is congratulating the False Creek Rowing Club for successfully applying for an EventHostBC grant. Funding is coming from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, which has approved a grant of $4,585. This grant will support the club’s Head Up the Creek Rowing Regatta, a time trial race that will be held on March 6, 2016 in False Creek.
EventHostBC, launched May 8, 2015, is a one-time funding initiative intended to encourage and support community events that strengthen volunteer capacity for event hosting throughout the province. A total budget of $250,000 is being distributed equally throughout the province’s six tourism regions based on a first-come, first-served model.
Eligible non-profit organizations were invited to apply for up to $5,000 per event. Eligible events included those that were not already receiving provincial funding, would draw visitors to the community and those that were not projected to be profit-making.
The EventHostBC initiative has drawn a strong response from interested community groups in all regions of the province – a total of 430 applications were received.
